Result after 2 months using Amsoil at 64:1 in my stuff.

I have been using this for 2 months, in non pro term, it is about 4 tankful or so. I check the spark plugs of my Shindaiwa C4 EB3410, Echo HC151 hedge trimmer. Shindai M242 with trimmer and short reach hedge.

Shindaiwa EB3410 looked slightly slightly wet with oil on the rim close to the thread. Electro is dry. Color of electro area is typical of 4 cycles which was black.

Echo Hc151 slightly wet on the rim, a little more so than EB3410. Electro looks slightly shinny but no wet. Color of electro was brownish.

Shindaiwa M242, drier than the other two. The rim is a little shinny but not oily. The electro area was dark grayish and was absolutely dry. Looked like the leanest running of the three. I donÂt think it was too lean because the color was still very dark gray.

Conclusion: I think 64:1 is a little rich for Echo HC151. About right for EB3410 and dead on for M242.

Am I read to much into this? Should I lean down to 75:1 for the first two and stay at 64:1 for the M242?

Plug color is affected by the fuel/air ratio. Oil has some affect on plug color but do not reduce the amount of oil because of plug color. Yes, I do think you're reading too much into the plug color. With Amsoil Saber you are probably safe at either ratio you mentioned. I run 50:1 just to be safe.

Thanks. I guess I did not express myself that clear. I draw the conclusion on only the amount of oil on the overall plug. I understand the air fuel ratio is the gating factor of the the color of the plug, I just gave the over all discription.

How long have you been using 50:1 Amsoil? What equipments do you have?

What exactly is the point of this exercise? It isn't like 50:1 is going to be fogging the skeeters away like 16:1 dino oil would, so I guess I'm confused about why one would want to try to run as little oil as possible without trashing their equipment, and definitely confused as to why you'd want to have two jugs of mix when a single jug of 50:1 would work just as well, if not better...

Actually running Amsoil 64:1 is very rich already. It is actually meant for 100:1. A lot of people run at 75 or 80:1 and have good luck. Too much oil will cause build up which is even deadlier. I open up one Echo SRM260 engine, the rings were find, the top one was half gummed up in the slot!!!! It is better to find the maximum oil without causing too much deposit.
