Were it my yard I would install 1" black poly pipe as it would be very close in price, to heavy duty hose, for a 100' roll and could be expected to last a lifetime, provided it is blown out at seasons end and not damaged, such as with a shovel or etc... As far as winterization is concerned you could certainly blow it out with a shopvac or a common air compressor.

I would not feel comfortable leaving a rubber garden hose, even a heavyduty one, pressurized 24/7, but I am on a well and my luck would have the hose fail and burn out my pump.

I do not wish to start an issue but I have heard this mentioned from time to time over the years and can honestly say I have never seen a single instance of poly failure under pressure without a defect; my personal experience has been that poly stands up fine under constant pressure. In fact poly pipe is used as mainline pipe for Res/Com systems throughout the Northeast; I would go so far as to say that of the hundreds of contractors (res/com) whose paths I have crossed I know of only one who uses 1.5" PVC for mainline and this is because his Maxi and Mini Sneakers are setup with PVC bullets only, no apparatus(es) for poly.

I would be very interested in hearing what your experiences have been which support this.
