Briggs problem

I have a briggs 18 hp that runs if you leave choke out a little but if you push it in it will stall any ideas what theproblem is.

For model specific information/answers, we need specific model and type numbers found on the engine. If you can give the exact model & type #s off the engine, it will provide for a better answer, but the short answer right now is: Most likely your carburetor main jet is clogged with varnish and so is not providing sufficient fuel to support operation with the choke open.
