My old Richdel sprinkler controller stopped working, and the do-it-yourself in me said I'll replace it. It hasn't worked out well so far, I fried my new controller.

Here is the wiring on the old.

All color wires went to the appropriate zone #.

2 seperate wire (brown) came from underground and went

into a transformer with a dial (I'm assumming it's adjustable voltage) and inside the transformer there was multiple terminals. 4 wires came out of the transormer

(2 brown, 1 red and 1 white. Of course, additional wires with a plug were placed into the outlet.

The brown wires went to the power supply of the the controller. The white went to the common terminal on the controller. The red went to a white wire that was part of the big strand of color wires.

My new controller that I fried came with a transformer that only had 2 wires. Based upon my previous wiring with 4 wires coming out of the transformer, I am confused.

It is very difficult tracing all the wiring from my sprinkler valve box. Any help would be appreciated.
