Noob question re: oil/gas for 2-stroke

I'm a first time homeowner and a new member to this forum and I've already found a lot of useful tips on the boards. I have no seen an answer for this one; if it has been answered please forgive me.

I've got an older Troy-Bilt 2-stroke tiller that requires 24:1 blend. I've come to realize this is a rich blend that is not really available any longer in stores. I was able to buy a 5.2 oz bottle (for 2.0 gallons of gas) of 50:1 oil and was told that this should work fine with my 24:1 needs. The only confusion was related to how much gasoline to add. Since this is a 50:1 mix in a 2-gallon container, should I had it to 1 gallon of gas or to 4 gallons of gas to achieve the approximate 24:1 ratio which the tiller needs? Thanks in advance.
