Just isolate the kill wire coming from your ignition, and the hook it up to a kill switch that just goes to a ground.

4-25-2019 Hi...I just had the same problem. I am replying to your comment several years later! These parts are no longer manufactured. However, don't fret, there is/are current replacements! I spoke to tech support at troy bilt and they have informed me that the same wiring harnesses that are on the brand new troy bilt Horse tillers...can be used on the old ones. They just have different part numbers:

Old Part # 2551......New part #: 72504367 -Engine grounding harness

Old Part # 2552.....New part #: 72504368 -Handlebar harness

The 2 new harnesses have a different connector that connects them together. That's the only difference between the old harnesses and the new ones. Because of this, you will need to purchase BOTH harnesses...since the old connectors and the new connectors are different. The connector to the presence control handlebar safety handles is identical on both old and new harnesses...so you don't need to replace the safety handles too.

Scott, I have the same problem and ordered the parts you stated above. Also ordered a new foward interlock switch to replace the one that is bad. The bolt diameter on the new swith is larger than the hole on the tiller. Did you drill and tap for the latger size. My horse is model 12070

Hi Dennis, that was about 10 months ago and I honestly don't remember. i was doing a lot of overhauling on the tiller so I don't remember all the little fabrications. It's out in my greenhouse which is about 400 feet from my house, so I don't typically go out there until early April (which is when I open the greenhouse and start planting in there). When I finished, it worked like the day I brought it home. I also changed the transmission fluid, oil, plug, fuel line and a few other items...just because they were getting cracked plastic from the aging.
