gator_rider2's method works well if you have time and muscle. If you can add machines into the mix you can make it go quicker. Something to pull the stump out (good advice from gator to leave about 2-3 feet of the tree above the stump to get some leverage on). Wrap to a truck, atv, tractor etc. Pull after wetting the rootball. If you don't have a landscaper bar, consider getting one. They are a ~5ft long metal bar, @25lbs, with an axe on the end. Great for chopping roots.

Another option is to burn it out. Soak it and let it burn. Start the burn early in the morning as it will take awhile and you need to monitor the fire.

If you need it out now, a stump grinder or a big enough backhoe/bulldozer to yank/dig it out.

I prefer to cut the roots and pull the stump but an aunt had a good idea years ago. She said to cover the stump with charcoal briquets, start them burning and cover with foil.

I never tried it but it seems to make sense.

Cut the branches from the tree, leaving most of the height. Dig to expose the roots near the surface. At about 6-8 imches from the trunk cut the roots with a tree loper. Then with a little more digging, try to expose more of the roots farther away from the tree that were just cut and clip those. That will give a little room to get to the lower roots. Rock the tree back and forth and continue to remove dirt. You will then get to the lower roots and tap root, or main roots that extend downward.

When I get enough dirt cleaned out around and under the stump, I run a chain under it and then use a Hi-Lift jack to pull the stump. It works really well.

Mission accomplished! Thank you to everyone that chimmed in. The tree came out pretty easy after soaking the roots at the base for two days. Got it out in about an hour and a half.
