Not familiar with that model. If you can see the motor and drive pulley, check that pulley is turning when you hear the hum. The set screw on my drive pulley got loose once and I could hear motor running (hum) but nothing was moving.
Use allen wrench to tighten set screw against flat on motor shaft.

My question: Is Craftsman garage door opener that bad? I have seen sooooo many posts here asking question on Craftsman opener!!!! I have seen just a Genie around, but I have not seen any question on them, are they better? I might be shopping for an opener soon, it is nice to know.

Yungman, Your assumption is correct. Craftsman garage door openers are trouble prone. They are pure junk in my opinion. There are more posts here on Craftsman Garage Door Openers than any other single product. I have worked on them too. I would never buy one. Get a Genie. I have used them in several locations. They are well engineered and work great. I have never had a failure. I like the Genie "Excelerator". It opens twice as fast and runs quiet. You never have to wait for the door to open with the Genie Excelerator.

As with ANYTHING that Sears sells, I always wonder
who made it for them. And more importantly, I'm sure
Sears must know about the poor reliability, so why

Hey, maybe they are Chinese knock-offs? I must admit,
I have a Crapsman garage door opener and it has been
trouble free for at least 10 years, when it was first
installed. Did I get lucky? I'm also guessing that
the number of problems reported is directly related
to the sheer number of the Sears openers out there,
compared to the other makes. I'm also guessing that
maybe some of the name brand models are not sold directly
to homeowners, but must be installed by well qualified
installers. So maybe some of the problems Sears openers have, can be related to incorrect installation by
homeowners.

I just fixed the same problem. There are two screws on the side of the opener, one is to control how far the door goes down and the other is to determin how much the door moves up. When the setting let door open too much the metal piece (for the door hook)on the chain will hit the stop bolt and jam. Solution: ajust the screw to let the door open less (maybe half turn is enough), loose the chain a litte, start the motor briefly to free the jam, tight the chain. That's it. Good luck.

I'm having the same problem. Am I correct on assuming I need to put a 1/2 turn down on the "up" arrow. Also I can't seem to free the chain from the jammed position. How do you recommend to loosen the chain?
It might be time to buy a Genie.

You will find a tention screw for the chain, just close by the stop bolt. Unscrew to lose it, so the chain will be loose too. Start the motor briefly and stop. Screw the chain tight again. You done.

Find somebody with a junky old pickup, get them to back thru the closed door, call insurance company, then install a new Genie door, and sit back and enjoy!
