Snowblower stuck in 6th gear

I need help with a Murray snowerblower 27 inch 8hp model # 627804X6. When snowblowing yesterday the machine became stuck in 6th. I haven't started taking it apart yet any ideas would be helpful.

If the linkage looks ok, pull the cover and my guess is you'll see what is going on. I would pull a parts diagram. You could google your model # and they show places that you can request a diagram. Sears shows a model that may be the same as well.

Chances are that the hex shaft iced up that the friction disk slides on. DO NOT FORCE THE GEAR SELECTOR! Remove the belly pan & see if there is ice on the hex shaft. It could also be dry from lack of lubrication.

If it is a friction wheel type drive, the wheel may have traveled off the end of the disk.
I always have issues with the hex shaft and lubrication on my old atlas two stage.

Hi,
Quick question about a 26 inch 8.5 horse Murray snowblower I own. The auger throws snow great and starts right up. However, when I put in gear and hold the hanle in it doesn't seem to want to go..Now, when I lift up to see if wheels are spinning they are...i'm stumped..any suggestions would ge great..thanks.
