Can't find snow thrower shear pins

I have a old Wards single stage snow thrower made by MTD.

I recently hit something with the auger and it no longer spins when the motor drives it. The auger spins by hand, and from what I've read I have broken the shear pin. My problem is that the manual doesn't show any shear pin, and I can't find one on the augur shaft. Is it possible that this machine was made without a shear pin?

There are likely no shear pins being a single stage. The belt is broken.

With the belt cover off, rotate the auger by hand. Does the shaft turn inside the pulley? That would indicate a sheared woodruff key.

With the belt off if I spin the pulley the shaft turns but not the augur. The pulley is not loose on the shaft.I am trying to figure out what fastens the auger to the shaft.

Is it possible that an auger could be welded to the shaft and I broke the weld? Can't see any other possibilty.
