Can you post a picture? The engine model,spec and serial numbers numbers should be stamped into the blower housing.

I can get a Picture.. It is not pretty right now...

I don't see any number stamped into the blower housing on the Tecumseh Motor. There used to be A metal tag riveted or screwed to the blower housing with numbers stamped in it.. That is long gone.. :(

You have a diamond in the rough.....the engine is a Tecumseh H60 (aluminum block) if it's cast iron its a HH-60 ,but I doubt it ....your engine should have points and condenser BTW,and be sure the front gear aasembly has plenty of oil ,B/c it is a ring and pinion gear set up and costly to fix ,if run out of oil .....I believe the oil used is 80-90 weight ....I gave one of these to a friend years ago with a 5hp engine on it (I installed the used 5hp engine) it's still going strong and he loves it ....plus it was free !

Yeah it looks rough, but everything on the thing works...

I thought it was an H60... Is there any way to retrieve a serial or anything so that I could get a new Choke Lever and Etc... Right now I use the Primer Button to choke it..

It looks similar to my early 70's, except that the "lockout pin" arrangement on the left handlebar predates my "safer" model.
I would remove the carb cover and see if you could attach a piece of sheet metal to create your own choke lever.
Interesting handlebar arrangement to brace the chute angle control.
There may be a stamped number in the bottom plate near the rear of the machine.
I would look for a few similar models on Ariens website to figure out a close match. My early 70's required a grease in the front gearbox, not gear oil. From what I remember, later models could use gear oil due to better sealing. If I can find my manuals, I will post again with an update.
While your brother's 14 year old paint job seems to have aged well, it will look better in Chevy Orange from Duplicolor.

No number stamped on the back plate of the machine, but I found a sticker my brother painted over.. Laquer thinner get it off without ruining the sticker? heheheehehe

Also, Where on Ariens site are there pictures?

It looks just like the one that is broke on mine...

I took this number to my local tecumseh service shop and they are going to order it so that I can take a peek..

If I like it then the part is 8 bucks.. Much better then paying $16 on ebay. Otherwise I would use jacks small engines for 6 bucks, but I want to support my local guy!

The choke lever sounds like a bargain.
I realize that the Ariens site requires a model and serial number to access the manuals- something you don't have easy access to.
Go to Ariens dot com, find the customer service tab, then click on manuals.
The model and serial numbers from my 74 this might get you started in the right direction.
For the tractor (drive) part, enter m/n 910018, s/n 008550. For the auger part, enter m/n 910017, s/n 016800. Select the electronic downloads. You might be able to play with serial numbers to get an earlier manual that matches your machine more closely.

The engine still runs good... Too bad Tecumseh is done with engines..

Maybe if this engine takes a total crap it might be fun to experiment with a diesel... hehe

I ve got 2 similar Ariens running using parts from a 3rd. The Tecumseh engines are pretty amazing considering they are over 30 yrs old. So far,only 1 out the 4 I have rescued has failed. As far as I can tell, its either the condenser or the coil. A minor detail I solved by swapping the blower unit onto the good running tractor unit. Tecumseh may have stopped building engines, but their engines will be around for many more yrs.

After putting on the new choke, I can get it started in 1 pull. That is even when the temperature is in the teens.

Well its a 1964 - 1974 10,000 series machine.
you can tell that from the bucket.
cant really pinpoint the year closer than that without the model number..

Take a look at the left-rear portion of the tractor body,
see if there is a model and serial number stamped into the frame:

If its there, and you can read it, please post the numbers!
perhaps the exact year can be determined..
