Rose pruning, broken bush, help!

Let me start by saying I know absolutely nothing about roses. I recently moved in with my fiancée, and discovered he had a rose bush growing on the side of his house. There was also a sapling of some sort growing up through the middle of the rose bush (he doesn't work out in the yard much), so I thought I would help the bush out by cutting this sapling down. As it turns out, the sapling was supporting the rose bush, and now the main stem/stalk/not sure what to call it has split in half because of the weight of the blooms. I'm not sure what kind of roses these are; they are pink and the bush has a very vine-like quality to it. It's wrapping itself around our chain link fence and was entwined with the sapling. I live in central alabama, zone 7b if that helps. My main question is, what do I do about that main branch coming out of the ground that is split? And how do I go about pruning this type of bush?
