You should be good with the little soil and the heaps of straw. I usually grow them on top of the soil and under piles of leaves and this year I used straw. Just be sure to keep the mulch deep enough to prevent the sun from reaching the new spuds.

Sure, but use lots of straw. I once used straw only for hilling and several potatoes were patially exposed and showed green. Regards, Peter.

my neighbor did that and his are great!! last year my older friend, he's a farmer of sorts, LOL he i guess has been doing this and he swears by it, he said he just puts alot on them and he don't have to worry about digging them out. he loves it!! i didn't get to get to do potatoes this year so unfortunately i didn't get to try that!! but i do get to try to grow tomatoe's and bell peppers in the house!! this guy experiments with doing things, he has a 5 year old tomatoe plant and a 3 yr old bell pepper plant he said when he walks by it he just gives it a shake so it pollinates it!! LOL how cool!! LOL so this year i'm gonna try it. ~Medo
