You can cover some of the holes. Clear packing tape should work fine, you'll need to dry off the exterior of the container first so you make good contact.

Hello sweetlady and welcome. Maybe you just need more bottom drain holes. It will work for you and then you'll be crazy sowing like the rest of us. Good luck and have fun.

I'm not familiar with those grape containers to know how many bottom openings there are...but if your containers are draining freely they should be OK. We're wetter here than you are - I don't worry about how much rain is running in as long as it is running out at the same rate :) and none is standing in the pots.

Are you in Seattle area? You're likely Z8 if you are, very few Z7s on W side of the mountains.

I am in Sammamish to be exact, yes I do see us falling under zone 8, thanks. No standing water either. I was trying to upload a picture but cannot seem to find how it is done.

I think sowing perennials is one of the most exciting things about winter sowing. There is just no limit to the plants you can try.
Do put aside some containers to do tenders later on though. I started strong last year with over three hundred types of seeds to try and I was pretty tired by the time I could sow cosmos and morning glories but after the show I had this fall I won't forget to do more every year now.

Welcome! I used some grape containers last year and they were a bit of a pain. If that is what you have then go for it. I would try to collect some milk jugs, 2 litters, etc...
