Link below... Here's the story from the link. Truly horrible. The question to me, is how did he fall "backwards" off the tractor. Must have been traversing an incline or something. Or maybe he was not driving the tractor?

Manitoba mans leg severed in mower accident
Winnipeg Free Press September 25, 2010 SOURIS, Man. A young man in Manitoba had his right leg severed this week after falling under the blades of a tractor-pulled lawn mower.

RCMP said the 21-year-old man had been working in the yard on Friday when he fell between a tractor and the mower deck it was pulling.

Police said the man was unable to get out of the way and was run over by the deck. His right leg was severed above the knee.

The man was taken to hospital in Souris, Man., but the leg could not be re-attached. He is reported to be in fair condition.

Souris is about 250 kilometres west of Winnipeg.

I don't think it's physically possible to fall like that under any normal situation, so some parts of the story are probably missing.

I have several neighbors who give kids a ride and dangle the kids off the side of the mower .... not too bright...

I wonder if he got off the machine without shutting it down, maybe he was between the tractor and mower and it ran over him.

I wonder if he wasn't using a stand-on device like I've seen them use in Florida.

From the description of the accident-it leads me to believe he was pulling a brush-hog, behind a full size machine, or maybe a push mower behind a large garden tractor!? When i first bought my place here, the large lawns had me buffaloed, so i bought a lawn tractor, and made a side hitch to pull another push mower , on an off-set hitch deal. Worked good, and cut mowing time way down.
As for getting his leg cut off---well, i went thru all that from being wounded by a land mine, during WW II. Took some adjustment in living, but i did it. That guy can too, if he has some good Drs.!

For what is is worth, I know of two men killed by being run over by bush hogs in the last two years. One was a neighbor. These were mid to full sized tractors with large mowers.
