As you live in the Center of the Universe, fish clubs abound in your area, not to mention oodles of people with more money than brains, who buy big tank set-ups then decide they don't want them and let them go for a song, just to give them space for their next brief ammusement.

Do a web search for fish clubs in and around NYC and get their upcoming auctions onto your calander. You will find your tank- on the cheap, or meet more than enough people into fish to make a connection with someone who has what you want, but didn't feel like hauling it to the auction.

Or- check eBay listings. That's how I scored my nearly new, 5 x 2 x 2 ft. acrylic SeaClear for $111.00, complete with lights, heater and a huge filter- and I'm near the SECOND city. If I lived as close to the FIRST one, it would have been even easier.

Of course I have some extra tanks to sell. All breeders do at one time or another, but shipping them to NY would cost far more than they are worth, so again: check out eBay and local fish club auctions in your immediate area.

As for fish, I don't generally ship and certainly not now, in the bitter cold of winter, but there are tons of breeders in and around NYC. There are also some very fine hobby/importers not too far from you, but again, this isn't the most optimum time to be shipping tropicals.

In fact, if all you want to set up is a single show tank, the cost of shipping would eat any savings on a few fish over just buying them from a quality retailer local to you.

Come on now. If you can't find it in NYC, it doesn't exist. SOMEWHERE in one of the boroughs, the tank of your dreams is there, just waiting for you.

If you really want a used tank check local newspapers or better yet check out some yard/garage sales [not many this time of year]. Let it sit outside with water for 24 hours to insure it's not leaking. Guppies grow fast, just feed it crushed flakes.
