Even though goldfish are social the bug eyed ones must look like snacks to your fantail. Either he goes or his tankmates have to go. He probably wouldn't bother regular goldies. Tell the store if they take him you'll buy a large bag of preimum goldfish food. Your conscience will be clear and the fish have to eat, don't they?

Thanks, James. I went out this evening and got a small (6 gal) tank and put the injured fish in it. Tomorrow I will deal with the aggressor (I have an old 10 gal tank down in the basement that I will pull out and set up for him for now.) Hopefully, he doesn't decide to blind my other orandas (I have 2 grey ones) or my black moors before then. I also noticed one of my smaller fans bullying the blind chocolate before I removed her. I'm going to do a partial water change in the large tank tonight, to see if I can cool it off a bit and mellow them out - I've heard that works. I'm going to move the aquarium deco around too - again, I've heard that a change of environment helps curb aggression. Wish me luck!

You will also need a "seasoned" filter to go with the new setup or you will have a disaster in the making (New Tank Syndrome).

my step son got 4 generic goldies from a carnival about 6 months ago and recently the biggest one of about 5 inches has been picking on my dwarf frog i though the tank was to crowed so i got a 55 gal tank and with that i got a couple new additions to the tank and the larger gold fish started eating the younger new fish so i fed him to my cat... if you could please give me any advice so that i dont have to sacrifice any more of my fish later down the road if it happens again.. any help is greatly appreshated

Approximately 1-2 months I got some very beautiful fantail goldfish & some black moores. My 5" fantail goldie has become very aggressive also chasing my others & nipping on them. I think they are very scared of him because they swim away. So in my 15 gal tank I had to resort to putting a separater in it to keep him away. I don't have the space for another tank at my house & the other tanks I have are way way to small for him. Maybe this might help for others.

Help, my comet fish attached oranda and removed one eye. My oranda is now in a new tank and I donated my comet fish last night to Petco that will adopt it out. Unfortunately, I have no fish vet where I live and nobody will see him. I put stress coat last night and he ate a little. Today he ate nothing and still has some tissue hanging down from eye socket. . Not sure if I should have him put down I love my marshmallow so much. Is he in pain? Can he recover?
