I have a 40 gallon glass aquarium with plastic trim that I use to house my adorable 4 year old red-eared slider turtle. The aquarium was outside for a thorough cleaning when a housemate sprayed Lilly Miller Polysul Summer & Dormant Spray (a lime sulfur spray) on a tree in the yard and got some of it on the aquarium. I later sprayed the aquariun with a garden hose, not knowing what was on it. I toweled the aquarium dry and then noticed a strong sulfur smell on the towel and my hands. I showered immediately after, fortunately, despite not knowing the stuff is toxic. I asked about the smell and found out it was the above very toxic spray. Glass aquariums are expensive and I'd like to salvage this tank but I don't want to harm my turtle. I bought some stuff called Lime Off to remove calcium deposits (like Lime Away or CLR, but non-toxic). Will this work for me? I was thinking of applying it and scrubbing, then rinsing well and repeating a second or third time. I'll definitely make sure the smell is gone, I'm hoping that will mean the spray is gone. I called Lilly Miller and asked if they knew what to do after looking at their Material Safety Data Sheet. Neither the Sheet nor the person I talked to really helped, althought the person guessed that Lime Away might work. But that stuff is probably harmful to turtles also.
