Funny how people think that having good conditions will mean no algae. There is a type of algae that will grow in every condition, unfortuneately,lol
I think the best you can ever hope for is to control it
since you can't eliminate it. I use mostly algae eating fish. There are so many different methods I'll refer you to the countless websites dealing with this problem.
Among the best IMO is the KRIB deals with all things wet lol gary

its not that i think there should be no algae as i have been in the fish keeping hobby for many years, and have been able to keep it down to a minimum but this one tank is giving me some probs. i have 12 tanks set up right now w/3 of them being planted. and every now and then you run into a prob that just stumps ya and this was it. however i have it under control now and things are doing great. Fishman, what was your solution for the hair algae?

the solution to pollution is dilution. lots of water changes cut down on lighting times from 12 hrs a day to 5 hrs and cut down on plant food now that it is under control i am slowly raising lighting and food again to find that happy spot.

I'm guessing it's a FW tank? Cutting down on light will help. If it was a SW tank, I'd recommend a sea hare-that's their favorite munchie!

you could try some amano shrimp but your discus would probably eat them these shrimp did a great job in my 70 gal with hair algae but you need quite a lot of them not just one or two
