quiet filter for 20 gallon shell cichlids

I have an unused 20 gallon on my bedroom dresser by my bedroom door that I would like to make into a habatat for lake tanklankia shell ciclids. Are there any quiet filters you can buy that make very very little noise, I'm kind of a light sleeper.

I'm thinking of using sandy base,to up the ph and simulate natural habatat with shells on the tank bottom, maybe some rocks and floating plants.

How can you prevent or control breeding, I know these guys can makes lotsa young, but I really don't want the hassle of dealing with them as i got two cats and some beetles and cave crickets to care for already.

Also what shell dwelling ciclid species would do well in that setup

Aquaclears are good but might be to loud. Maybe a Emperor 280 would be a good choice.

I like the colony breeding shell dwellers like Neolamprologus multifasciatus. I have a large colony in my 340 gallon tanganyikan community tank.

For sand I'd get carribsea oolitic aragonite (sugar sand) which will keep your pH and kH up.

Aquaclears are about the most reliable beastie out there. Easy to clean and get parts for and they do a good job. All you have to do is keep the water level up to avoid the 'waterfall' noise. I am a light sleeper too and have a tank in my room so I knowst of which I speak.
