summer through winter care

I'm in zone 6 and was given several varieties of calla about 15 in all. Some are still blooming some are finishing. I believe, once the blooms are spent, I should stop watering and when the leaves are yellowed, store them in cool, dark place. Will it make a difference if I keep the tubers in the pots with dirt or will I get significantly better results with the tubers stored out of the dirt? I saw that Scott replaces the dirt. Your opinions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!
