Rema, you could let them dry out in the pots and store the pots in a garage over winter. If you do not have a garage, I would take them out of the pots, wash off dirt, dry out the tubers, and store them in peat moss.

I don't think there is enough time for them to become well established if you plant them out in the ground now. However, Dallas is much warmer than OKC (you're a 7b; I'm a 7a).

Next spring I would plant them in the ground so they can winter over, unless you don't mind going thru the winter preparation every year.
