Your entryway is gorgeous. I particularly like the coffered ceiling and lantern chandelier. My suggestion would be to paint the interior of the front door black. Place your console table with the mirror above it on the left hand side of the door. I'm not sure if the tile one I see at the edge of the photo is what you are considering. If so paint the frame of the mirror in one of the shades of the tile. The mirror should be in scale with the table. On the other wall space a large framed picture or painting would be nice. A final touch would be an area rug on the floor. If your budget is limited, look for remnants at a carpet store. Keep your eyes open for the right item even if it takes a while to find it at your price point. Elaine in Canada

I think you need to decide how you will use your entry way. Will it be high traffic? Will you use it often for recieving guests? I always think a mirror works because it is the last glance as you leave the house, or the first glance for a guest who might need to fix windblown hair. Do you have a closet handy to hang up coats, or a receptacle for umbrellas. Do you need a coat hook or rack? or umbrella stand. Also, a small bench or chair will allow someone to sit and remove shoes or boots. Think about the durability of the rug you need for the use of the area. It can be either a statement peice or more durable for kids and dogs. Just remember that this area is the first impression and will give a glimpse into your decor. Use it to place an important piece of artwork, heirloom mirror, or favorite one of a kind chair. Decorate with found objects, mix old with new; add that something unusual. Have fun, you have a beautiful entry to decorate.

Wow what great suggestions! I was actually considering the bench but wasn't sure if it would work. This entry probably won't be used daily as we have a mudroom through the garage the family will use. It is right off the living room so i was a little concerned about trying to match the area rug in there- but Elaine, I definitely agree it needs a rug. Good question as to how it's used...children? If so, the closes wall to the right needs a classy "mud room" piece of furniture that houses shoes and jackets, but let the piece speak for itself, not the stuff...a mirror is a definate, always need a mirror, and with it a place to set keys, mail, purse, guests belongings, maybe someone is coming over with a baby, need a bench to set things down...make it classy, but user friendly.

I'd restrict the mudroom type arrangements to the area off the garage, unless that is not the way this house is set up.

I would get a rug in the entry right away, to protect the floor and give the area definition and even more deign pizzaz!

By the way, what a beautiful entry! And I would use a console and on the other side, a tufted linen bench. No mudroom furniture, hat racks or umbrella holder, this space needs to stay simple and elegant! And be sure to consider the scale of the space and have a tall enough console or chest for the tall ceilings. Two lamps and an elegant large bowl (or antique box or textural basket) in the center of the console would be nice in front of the large mirror. It will be a beautiful first impression!

I Would suggest putting a console and mirror , and a rug to define the entrance area .

What Vikrant said - a mirror should go on the right -give incomers a last check, and leavers to fix their coats and hats.Maybe even a hat and coat rac there too.

Very nice entry way, you do need some nice accents for that area. Its does look like you have plenty of space for a more well defined console table and a pair of accent chairs or large bench. Definately agree with a big mirror accent to the left wall, along with wall decor that corrispond to the iron lantern ceiling fixture. A nice accent chest below the mirror will give a better visual to that wall. Linda is right about the scale, pick items that are simple but elegant that define in visual scale of the high room.
I attached a few ,rough cut but simple ideas, samples from our Avenue B collections. The contrast differs alittle between your pic and the showroom pics but it gives you a little better visual of creating a more elegant front entrance.
