I wonder too why they seem to be almost unknown, given their interesting selection of old roses. I spotted one, a China named Catherine II, that I had never heard of, and I thought I pretty well knew all the Chinas. It's a rather pretty pink rose that might be a welcome addition to someone's garden. They seem to have a good selection of albas and other European once bloomers and species roses, and some nice Tea roses.

Ooooo, yes! My experience last year was wonderful. I ordered R. moschata, Nasturana, Contesse de Rocquigny & Talisman. Marissa didn't want to ship Talisman because it was so small but I begged for it--couldn't get it anywhere else.

Moschata, Contesse & Nasturana were very well established plants & have thrived like nursery-bought five gallon plants. Talisman was small but healthy & Marissa sent a REFUND check WITH it because it wasn't up to her standards to ship (didn't cash it, of course). Contesse de Rocquigny was suggested by her as a fragrant rose that should do well for me--and it HAS--beautiful, fragrant, healthy plant that blooms a lot.

Very nice plants, very considerate business owner. Only complaint I can think of at all is I can rarely catch the plants I want in stock. I need to pre-order.

I looked up Comtesse de Rocquigny and was amazed at how beautiful this rose is. I'm surprised it isn't mentioned more often. bluegirl, do you live in a very warm climate? (I feel silly asking this when you live in Texas.) I'm wondering how well this rose can handle dry heat.

Oh, yeah. Bit north-west of San Antonio. Avg rainfall supposedly 32. (Phbbbbbt! if ONLY). Not AZ-hot temps--it can get triple digit, but mid-high 90s are normal summer temps. Fairly mild winters--high teens, low 20s are the coldest & milder days are common.

Yeah, it IS one pretty rose! Typically, it didn't do much the first year. This year it has flushed repeatedly & put on lots of bushy growth. It's planted in full all-day sun.

I'd rate it right up there with Souv. del la Malmaison, which is a fine Bourbon for this dry sunny climate. The flowers aren't quite so big, but have that same very double, flesh-pink look. Very good Bourbon fragrance.

I haven't ordered from Greenmantle, but I have heard good things about the nursery through the local heirloom plant grapevine. I like Greenmantle's website--all the wonderful quotations. I might sample their wares this fall. If you place an order, please post on your experience. I'd love to hear your thoughts.

Greenmantle nursery roses are fantastic. This year I received 2 of their apple trees. They are thriving and I'm so looking forward to them providing us apples from a prior time.

I've never ordered roses from Greenmantle, but I have several of their Rosetta apples. I'll be getting my very first Thornberry apples this year and I'm really looking forward to them.

They only ship between January and May. You need to pre-order for good choices. $5 per rose to reserve. No online ordering. Need to snail mail them your order. In the fall they confirm what they'll be able to ship.

Great nursery on a small scale.
