What's missing?

So here's my living room. It's driving me bananas. Something big is missing but I cant quite figure it out. I love the high ceilings- and that its not just 4 walls and a ceiling. Would like to play up the architecture, accentuate it.
I know I need something on the walls like art- but I'm craving something more than that. Something big. Bold. I dont know, texture maybe? LIghting? Would like to stick with cool tones. grays turquoise etc.
The coffee and side table dont work. They're warm toned which bothers me a lot..I would like to paint them...but what color exactly? Those pieces are not real wood so they cant be sanded and stained. Has to be a solid color.
Any advice or suggestions, anything is greatly appreciated!

What about turning a photo into a giant Andy Warhol-style work of art? I would make sure to include the turquoise color found elsewhere in your home. I bet you could get a great shot of the doggie I see in your photo!

Could you change the tables? The rug doesn't appear to go with the furniture colour. Could you move the rug to another room? I saw a painting leaning on the stairwell ... could that be the start to a gallery behind the sofa? I'd move the bench in front of the window and put pillows (the colours on the painting) on the bench and sofa. The architecture should be featured as it is unusual.

Paint the handrail white to match the other. Add trim around window and between the two rooms, in white.

Photo two shows us three different, unrelated light fixtures. Do you have a theme; maybe beach?Look for some striking fixtures that tie together and add a presence to the room. I would move the bench under the window where you can add stationary drapes. Pull the chair closer to the sofa or put the side table with it so everyone has a place to put their drink. If your plants are live, put them together at the smaller window. If they're fake, get rid of them. You need big art behind the sofa. What is the covered piece beside the sofa? Looks like it may need to go.

your couch is way too small -- can you get a bigger one? and an enormous coffee table -- a big square, maybe upholstered. Giant art above the couch -- you can make something or get a photo blown up to a really big size make sure you pick one with really high resolution or it will get pixelated. Get an area rug to anchor the seating area and at least one more comfy chair to make a conversational area. Move that bench from under the chair wall. No one is ever going to sit there. Agree with above comment on painting banister and adding trim. Add another large tree on the other side of the window to balance it out. Add end tables and some lamps, and definitely do something about those hanging light fixtures -- they are so different and in the same room … it's chaotic. Swap them out for two pendants or chandeliers of similar style in different sizes.

I love your turquoise door! Bring the color into your living room with accessories or pillows. It seems that there are too many competing neutrals. Something needs to go. Carpet, paint, oversized chair? Something. Just seems disjointed.

HI -- You have a modern vibe going here but a country stair railing . Someone said to paint it white , I say no , you need more drama there . Cut off the top knobs and sand and paint it all black /charcoal . Find coordinating light fixtures in a modern style with either black touches or chrome with glass combos . A clerk at a lighting store can help you pick out some good ones . Have you looked at some wallpapers ? The new papers now are wonderful and dramatic and interesting and are easy to get off when the time comes for a change . You could just go with a texture paper so the walls are not so bland - something like a grass cloth or linen . Get something that has a horizontal look to it because of the wall heights . For drapes ... fill the window alcoves with drapes , full height and wall to wall . And have under blinds for light control and mount those high too. These could be matched to the wallpaper if you choose . You could also paint a warm or darker color on the ceilings . Look for example rooms on Houzz or look at some of the top designers portfolios . You can find top designers on the Architectural Digest web site . Also look at Houseandhome.com -- one of my fav websites .

Check a thrift store for smaller coffee, end tables. Do you need the light from the ceiling fan? If not buy a modern architectural type ceiling fan. Paint the thrift store tables a creamy white color. What is the item with the cloth on it? It does not seem to fit in. I think you need two more matching chairs to be placed angled toward each other on each side of the sofa. I don't like the oversized pillow on the bench. You could use a wall of art above the sofa. No one else can pick your art. But go to Z Gallerie or Overstock.com or Art.com or look in thrift stores for large abstract art. Hang a circular mirror on the wall going up the first run of stairs. I'm almost tempted to ask you to change your window coverings, adding matching ones to the side of your arched window. Add some color, a little at a time until you find the right look.

You have style! The turquoise door is fabulous (and makes me want to immediately paint my front door too.)

I am intrigued by the smidgen of turquoise I can see in your middle photo. If that's not a piece of art that you are already using, I think it would be great above your sofa. Sofa art should be 2/3 to 3/4 the size of your sofa, so you're looking for something big. That should be your next purchase before you decide what color to paint your coffee and end tables. It would look great if it has some turquoise too. Art.com is a site where you can search by color etc.

Assuming that your art doesn't bring in any new important colors, I'd paint the tables a dark brown similar to what is in your existing pillows. Or if you want something more adventurous, choose a color that is your turquoise but much darker and greyer, which would be a dark greyish teal. I love to use this site https://color.adobe.com. Select Create then Shades, and you can play with the color wheel to find the right color. Just move the thingy around until you find your color, then move it closer to the center to see it darker and blacker. Hard to describe but if you're interested it's easy to figure out. Scroll down on the page to see what the colors are. I think this is close to your color. https://color.adobe.com/create/color-wheel/?base=2&rule=Shades&selected=2&name=My%20Color%20Theme&mode=rgb&rgbvalues=0,0.75,0.7457032760996753,0,0.5,0.49713551739978357,0,1,0.9942710347995671,0,0.5,0.49713551739978357,0,0.9,0.8948439313196105&swatchOrder=0,1,2,3,4

Have fun - you have a great start.

THank you all for the feedback!!!
I will definitely move the bench under the window.
I wouldnt say the couch is too small, but it definitely needs to be moved a little. I think closer to the window and coffee table, and chair.
Then maybe we could put a "drink cart" in between dining table and couch.
I really dont care for the pillow print at all. Would like to change it.
The turquoise blue door is staying. Everytime I see it I find myself happy and smiling. It's fresh:)
We have two really oversized mirrors that we would like to frame. Trying to find the perfect material to use. Leaning towards "organic" "natural" . Love reclaimed would.
The chandeliers are a problem. To be 100% honest, they were gifts. Although I do like them now because they're so unique and very well made, They would not be my first choice if I saw them aT the store. I'd love something that is capiz shell/ tree branch/unique. Also replacing both would cost a fortune.
Stairs-- So we will be putting in grey/cool toned hardwood floors throughout they entire house this year. I know that will really help to tie together existing decor. The stair rail will be a hard choice too. Would like a creative material to use for that. Not glass because itll get dirty too easily. Maybe 4 ropes going up the stairs with some posts?
Any ideas for that half wall on the second level? Was thinking to tear down to open up the area.
Will put trim around windows and do trim to separate rooms.
Love the Adobe.com idea. Would have never thought of that.
THank you all again! Your feedback has helped tremendously already!

You could accentuate the upper wall with a paint feature - wavy bottom third in a soft accent color to go with turquoise [rosy lighting's color?]

or straight lines [though you have plenty of straight lines and angles] - playful stripes and curves like the rug:

    How's it going?

I think if you painted the stair rails white, they would blend in more. They seem to pop out.

I think you're off to a good start, you just need a bit more pop. I think you should consider painting the railings of the stairs to match the trim in the rest of the room. You could also go with a contrasting railing (dark) and maybe lighter colored spindles. If you can change the carpet, I would. The yellow tone of the wood seems to be clashing with the subtle coloration of your walls and furniture. It might sound crazy, but I think you need an area rug to pull the living area together. You also need some big, bold artwork, some accessories, and I suggest one of our nice large statement chandeliers to really pull things together and help fill in some of the void. :) We make lighting from blown and fused glass, all custom made with as many pendants as you need to fit your space.
