What great water access! I love the color palette of this beach retreat...weathered gray, teal and cream. Definitely paint/stain your support posts to match the railing color.

I realize it is not the greatest looking house on the beach. However, houses on Wrightsville Beach's south end are few and far between. You get what you can and make the best of it.

I think this house is great! I love the color and the A-frame looks old school, vintage. Reminds me of old California beach houses in the 70's. You did good here. Just paint the posts as Emily suggested, get the top rail too. Consider some bahama shutters or awnings for shade. Get some beautiful pots with beach friendly plants and nice outdoor furniture and your set. Time to BBQ, you're almost there. Here is an ideabook for you with some more ideas. Have fun! I looked at a few (actually not a few) beach houses on Houzz photo search and came up with my opinion. Then I went and deleted what I wrote by mistake. Anyway, if you look at the photo group of Beach Bungalows and Cottages that Charmean suggested, you see more houses for color inspirations.

If you decide to do retractable awnings, the stripes available might lead you to color choices. See this Deco streamline style for an example of color and great metal railings:

I thought the house was a sea foam colour trimmed in white, which I think is lovely. I'm sitting here is Scotland where the summer has been wet and grey for the most part so I'm jealous of the sunshine and am loathe to suggest any shade! However the Bahama shutters look wonderful. What about the darker ground floor level, have you plans to brighten that? Please post updates as I'm sure you will make it even nicer.

I would not suggest bahama shutters as they will impede your view. Also, I would wait unit I was in the house to determine if you really need an awning. I've seen so many waterfront housing destroy their view with an an awning you must look under ( i keep wanting to rip them off when I am inside!) Some cute, beachy colors and you are good to go! It's adorable! A more tealy blue and cream with some pops of turquiose would be great.

My husband keeps saying the same thing about the awnings. I really want to cover the top porch in some way. We will absolutely cook up there otherwise. That is part of my issue and why I started this discussion. It is already painted a seafoam green or light light turquoise with white railings and trim. All of the trim needs to be painted. We are difinitely going to lighten up the bottom floor.

You might consider a remote-controlled retractable awning.

I thought about that as well, but I am concerned about the mechanical aspects that will corrode in the salt air.

Congratulations. I would consider changing the railing style, to something less visible especially in front of the sliders. It appears that the second floor sliders have vertical blinds, if so, I would change those too. Plants, colorful furniture...just lovely. Enjoy.
