Keep it moist and it should do fine. Why did you dig it up so soon? I'd have waited until the last minute. Is there anyway that you can transport it in the container without having to further shock by barerooting it?

Moving it twice could be a major problem. I would NOT bareroot it. I would move it in the pot at this point. Since you already shocked it so bad and are giving it three weeks, it will be starting to leaf out and put out feeder roots again and then you take those away again? That could EASILY kill it. I would also have waited, packed it in plastic bags and wet paper then boxed it and transported. Too late now though.

Hopefully, you can treat it now like a canned plant, encourage it to enter active growth and fill the pot with feeder roots before transplanting it. The warmer soil in the pot should help to generate more roots as long as it's kept sufficiently watered and the pot protected from the full, hot sun which can damage tender roots in too close contact with the hot surface. Once a good root ball is formed in the pot, you should be able to easily transplant it as you would any containerized plant, with good success. Good luck!

I knew a lady years ago in the Antelope Valley, here in Southern California, who would transplant her roses at all odd times of the year. It's an extreme climate, almost high desert like winters with almost low desert heat in the summer. Very alkaline and salty, yet she never lost a plant. She just seemed to understand how much to cut from the tops and how much root ball was required and she kept them properly watered. She broke every "rule" I had ever read and succeeded every time! Kim
