Overwintering Container Cl. Roses

I have 2 climbing roses on my 3rd story balcony (Cl.Iceberg and New Dawn). I started them in half barrel planters this spring and plan to attempt wintering them over on the patio this winter. They have grown from small 1ft own root roses to now (in just this summer) each having multiple 6-8ft canes. I'm thinking of bagging up some leaves and putting the pots on top of those right up next to the patio door... then attempting to get the canes bent or in a protected area.. then surrounding the pots with partially filled bags of leaves(bags I mean large garbage bags).. then covering the whole thing with a tarp. Do you think this would work? I think the patio door will provide a little heat to the area under the tarp (the tarp will go right up to the door.. so there won't be leaf bags against the patio door itself) I'm trying to come up with idea's now instead of last minute. I live in an apt so I don't have much of an option for putting them in the ground, nor in a garage. I had a dorothy perkin's rose survive in the pot on the edge of the patio last winter and it got down to -30 F many times (I have no idea how it made it O.o )I also have a few Morden roses.. but those I am less worried about.
