Garden Shots

I thought it would be fun to look at some shots of our garden this past spring. Right now, the heat is on, but it has been a nice season.

Absolutely breathtaking! I especially love the ornaments you have all over the garden.

Garden Party, thanks so much for the gorgeous pictures! They are very inspirational, and I especially appreciate seeing how Napoleon looks after in the ground awhile. I have one in a pot and was wondering how attractive the growth habit was. He's nice! I think your Louis Philippe has to be my absolute favorite.

Thanks Msjam! Sandy, Napoleon has a very clean growth pattern. He grows very upright and doesn't ever plunder all over the place. His leaves are spot free with no spray and he blooms from March until October and in great abundance and frequent repeat. By the time his last blooms are aging he is full of buds again - my kind of rose as well. Also, his dead petals blow away instead of making a nasty mess. He is a very fine, carefree rose.

Your garden is very lovely. I especially like your harmonious use of color and how well you've mixed the roses with other plants. Your house is very nice too.

Thanks so much for the pictures.

very gorgeous! What is that wonderful hot pink number in the circle bed, around the fountain?? I would love to have a pretty pink house like that! Our brick house is sorta brownish brick, but I am doing my best to transform it into a gingerbread cottage...

Great mix of tropicals with your roses. Perfect for your climate and a delight to the eye.

Thanks Zeffy! Where I live use to be a swamp, so drainage, weeds and overgrowth are my biggest issues. I give the city pick up truck men a run for their money in early spring!

Starshadow, it is as much a challenge for me to find the "other" stuff as it is to get the right rose. Actually, I'd just have roses if I didn't stop myself - haha. I do just have beds of roses though.

Ingrid, a lot of the harmony is sometimes luck or sometimes repair. I just enjoy mixing it up some until it appeals to me. I still have my all red rose garden which I finally broke up this year. One red in the middle was removed and Franceska Kruger was placed there. I have white Scheflocke (sp?) - white carpet rose- in front. I'm hoping it will look better next year.

Pagan, thanks! The red bed around the angel fountain is rose colored verbena. I found it is a favorite nectar plant for the swallowtails you see on the end. I love the butterflies and I try to incorporate stuff for them in the garden.

Carol, I do love tropicals and since its too hot for some of the more cottagy plants like poppies and what not, they have to do. I believe you have to plant what will grow in your area or it looks bad.

I was hoping others could post some stuff as well! I'd love to see your gardens!

I love your house color, too, and your use of Cannas. I use them and thought I was being quite adventurous. They work though. I do like the burgundy-leaved ones. Have to look for those. I like the edging stones. How tall does your Iceberg get and is it clean. Do you have any other polyanthas? If so, are they all on fortuniana? I'm thinking of Marie Pavie & Marie Daley on own-root with lots of pine bark in the bottom of the big hole. It's all very well done and lovely. Thanks for sharing it.

Everything is so beautiful! And like others - I love the color of your house. It looks wonderful with all the green foliage and compliments the colors of all the flowers. I also like the way you camouflaged the chain link fence. I almost missed that it was there at all. Your garden looks like a very welcoming, happy place.

Lois, what is that pretty red rose bush growing near your Crepuscule?
