YES. Since it might be a little strong and acidic, I would not pour it directly on any earthworms, but just splash it around the pile. I pour out beer cans that my husband hasn't finished, and sour milk left in the carton, etc. If you have any unwanted weeds, you could try pouring on them directly. But I see no problem in the compost.

Sourkraut and tomato juice can be put in the compost pile and will have little or no affect on the earthworms since they should not be present in an active compost pile. Milk and milk products, because they usually have pretty high fat contents, can upset the digestion process more so that the vinegar on the sourkraut.

Kraut is have rotted anyway... so it makes a fine ingredient in compost. :-)

The cabbage is pickled, not half rotted, a big difference. The acidic nature of storing the shredded cabbage in vinegar stops bacteria from digesting the cabbage.

I guess if you like kraut you could considered it pickled... otherwise its just rotten.

No, kruat isn't pickled or rotted, its cabbage fermented with bacteria. The vinegar attracts bacteria, which ferments it.

First, may I suggest it was once, perhaps still is, one word "sauerkraut". It is usually defined as cabbage fermented in salt and acid by Leuconostoc and Lactobacillus.

And yes, toss it in the compost.

Re sauerkraut, sauerkraut=cabbage+kosher salt (not vinegar), about 5 lbs cabbage to 4 tbsp salt. Adding salt, which is a bacteria killer, to my compost pile always gives me pause and then I do it anyway since the quantities are small.
