I'll go out and do a "sniff" test tomorrow, but my nose is not the best. I spray, but still, I have not seen any BS on this bush, whereas some of my other Bucks still get it (ie. Habanera). The color is very nice.

Hi Michael,

I got my September Song a couple of years ago from Roses Unlimited. It has NEVER had any disease for me even when roses around it are afflicted. It also has large, glossy dark green leaves which always look healthy. The blooms start out two-toned, light and dark peachy-pink and are quite large and beautiful. At best I'd say the fragrance is mild. But it has so much going for it and it did well over the winter so I am quite pleased with it.

Here are some pictures showing its progression of bloom:

OPEN BLOOMS ARE LARGE (about 5-6" across) and come in clusters of 3 or 4, the color losing its peachy color and fading to pure pink:

Oh my!!! Heavenly!!! Just love the dark and light shades. And you're in zone 4!!!! Do you winter protect it? Talk about beautiful!!!

Wow! I am putting September Song on my list for next spring.

It is half Prairie Princess, so it might well be hardier than most other Buck roses. However, all the ones I'm familiar with are cane-hardy here, except Distant Drums.

I didn't realize it is a bicolor. Very pretty, & great shots, Celeste.

I'm replacing Hawkeye Belle because it balls constantly. Thanks for the comments. What else about SS?

Hi Canadian Rose....YES, I do winter-protect by mounding up the base of the rosebush w/ soil and throwing some hay over & around the bush...it hasn't gotten too tall yet so its easy. Being a Griffith Buck rose it is hardier than a lot of roses but has the "looks" of a rose that wouldn't be so tough. I haven't been daring enough to NOT winter-protect, so I can't comment on how this rose would fare if it wasn't given some protection. Since you are a zone colder than me (Brrrrr) I would definitely suggest winter protection just to be safe.

Celeste

Where do you get your hay from?
