Easy Does It...does it really bloom continously?

Hi everyone,

I was wondering whether those lucky few people who have already been growing 'Easy Does It' can tell me if it does in fact bloom continuously? Also, how well do the blooms hold up? Do they fade or blow quickly? What is the growth habit of the bush? How does this one compare with Julia Child? Any additional details you can provide are of course much appreciated, particularly if you are in SoCal.

Thanks

Chad

I'm in New England, but I can tell it blooms pretty much non stop. Earlier in the season the bush was loaded with buds & blooms. This past month it was just a few, but we had a real heat wave in August. As far as the color, it starts out a pretty deep orange and changes colors as it ages. The blooms hold up pretty well, that's why the bushy has such a range of colors on it. It's gotten nice & bush through the season, but not tall. Disease resistance is excellent. This bush was spotless throughout the season! Hope this helps.

    Chad,
I live 30 miles east of LA and echo many of dollsandroses comments. So far it has bloomed consistently & the blooms last well, fading to a soft orange. No sign of disease problems...as for heat hardiness all of the blooms got cooked but then again so did the blooms on all of my roses! Too hot here lately! I will be sure to post a picture next flush.

There's a planting at the parking lot of the Cal Poly Pomona Farm Store. Lots of bloom from what I could see. The flowers fade some with age but give a nice multicolor effect. It would also be at Rose Hills and Wrigley garden if you want to see for yourself.

Sounds very promising...perhaps I'll make a visit to the local botanic garden and see if they have one. I am considering its suitability to plant three or four in a bed with black mulch with blue and lavender flowers. I already put down the mulch and planted the blue and lavender flowers which are doing well despite the heat. I am considering planting this rose or Julia Child this winter...so far its tough to call, perhaps in need more input.

hodgepodge, amandahugg, can you comment on size? Does it look to have a tall growth habit? Thanks.

Hoovb, It looks more rounded in habit, maybe 3.5 to 4 feet. Not as compact as Julia.

It sounds as though it may come down to a matter of personal preference since both it and Julia Child would look well with blue and lavender, although in my opinion yellow might be slightly more harminious. The question is really what speaks to you more in terms of color and which rose would better harmonize with the remainder of your plantings. I have Julia Child and it's an excellent rose in every way. Good luck with whatever decision you make.

Thanks for that info, amandahugg. I appreciate it.

I was thinking the same thing as you ingrid_vc, the yellow would probably go better color-wise, however I was tempted by the continuously blooming aspect of 'Easy Does It.

Can anyone say how long (on average) the blooms last before they blow?

    Thanks.

I don't know about Easy Does It but, if properly watered and fertilized (I use alfalfa meal), Julia Child does just about bloom continuously and is a very pretty bush with dark green leaves. Easy Does It is also very pretty on HMFR, if one likes the orange tones.
