Can you tell us a little bit about why it's a mudhole? Is it bounded on all three sides by something solid that holds in water? Is it in an area that catches all of the rainwater from the driveway and/or roof?

We need to know if it's possible that the problem be remedied, because you can't simply plant into something like that.

I had a place like that in the front of my house. It was the catch-basin location for rain from the roof, and it was dammed in by a concrete walk way.

I use the verb WAS, please notice. ;-) Maybe your situation is something that is easier to solve.

Sorry, I guess I should have explained better. It is right next to the driveway, the triange of mud runs alongside my driveway and alongside the street. It is catching runoff from the road and it accumulates there. No curbs or gutters in my subdivision. I used to have an even worse mudhole on the other side of the driveway next to the road, where the mailbox is. That one was even worse, because of the mail carrier's vehicle, but the city filled it in with "lovely" asphalt (does not even match the roadway!) Any advice appreciated!

Plant a bog garden?

There is a wonderful book titled "The Southern Gardener's Book of Lists". It has no pictures but has the most wonderful and useful lists of what plants to grow where. It is my gardening bible so-to-speak.

You can find it at the library to see if you would like to purchase your own copy.

Bog Garden-Rain Garden--same thing. Sounds like a good idea. There are some good web sites with complete instructions. You might even want to enlarge the wet area to make the garden more actractive.
