Meadow Lark - the bad news is there is no medication for this affliction - the good news is there is a wonderful support group available.

This lily may turn out to be the most gorgeous lily in your yard and produce many others. Think of all the lilies you have saved. And I probably would have picked it up too.

Meadowlark I feel your pain. I even pick up the broken pieces of plants I see wilting away at the garden centers of stores. I always thought that I was stealing but have determined that I am the only thing between these broken plants and life and death. Just a little potting soil and water makes so much difference. Tender loving care always works. I wonder if there is a hidden lesson here?

I am sure your lily will show you much graditude in the days to come.

As AmeliaD told you there is not a cure for your problem. Just keep coming back to this support group and you will make it through to another season.

Several of my plants are "rescues"... I pick plants out of the trash when people move from their homes. I ask at stores and vets offices for pieces of landscape plants so that I can root them. If I see a plant dying in a store - I HAVE to buy it... even if I have to pay full price.

I have about 60 plants in pots that I over-wintered, because I don't know where to put them!

Meadowlark, I too like your angle of thought ref: rescuing plants! I will use it myself! And don't worry, you aren't the only one with the affliction. I am sooo addicted. I buy new plants almost every time i go somewhere...

Rosey when I go to Wal-Mart or any other place that has a garden department I enter there to see if there is a plant I just have to have in my flower beds or a poor broken limb that needs rescuing. I have found that chekcing out the garden department after a thunderstorm with wind can prove very productive.

Today at Lowe's I found pentas. Bought three deep pink ones. I was told years ago to plant in threes.

You should have seen the look on my hubby's face last night when I told him the "onion" as he called it was really a lily bulb.

He said, "What's wrong with it?"

I said it was "run over by a car".

He said, "I KNOW you are not going to start picking up "strays" in parking lots..."

I said, "TOO LATE"!

LOL.... He just looked defeated, and walked away.

Hi, my name is Terry and I'm a plantaholic. It has only been 3 days since I stopped at Lowe's, Home Depot and Collier's Nursery, all before I got home from work. I called a friend and he told me to go home and not to give in to my addictive urges. I did go home but I hid the truth from him. I had already made plans to go to the Turkey Creek Landfill plant dig tomorrow. And now my addiction is affecting my family. My daughter is going to the plant dig with me. Do you think there is any hope for us?

No and I don't really think we want any help. This is our therapy. Gardening is our escape from reality and cheaper than visiting a "shrink". I work out all of my hostilities mowing the grass and digging in the dirt and there is no physical harm done to anyone.

Many times I have picked up plants at Home Depot and carried them to the "pond' and dipped them in for a drink, then put them back on their shelves. I once bought some distilled water at Walmart and used it to water their plants. I can't bear to see the poor things so abused. Its not we that are nuts, its THEM, like my rich neighbor who keeps throwing plants into the trash, which then grow happily in my yard.

Topsiebeezebulb - I water the plants at HD too! I really had to laugh when I read your post... I dip, dunk, squirt, mist or whatever I can get me hands on....

I cannot stand to see them thirsty...

Hi, My name is Melanie, and I too, am a plantaholic. I stopped at Lowes today to look for narrow leaf zinnas, and spent $90 (no zinnas BTW..they didn't have any)...what was I thinking! Found the zinnas at a local nursery, but alas...I could no longer afford to buy any. MM

I will soon hit rock bottom. Despair is in my future. Pike's Nursery will open on Hwy 280 within the next several days. The largest nursery in Alabama. Conference center, Southern Living trial gardens, ponds, retail and wholesale centers. Now, when I leave work, I must pass Hanna's Garden Shop, WalMart, Lowe's, Home Depot and Pike's, all before I get to I-459 seven miles away. HELP!!!

OOOO! I envy you! I used to go to nurseries on my lunch break, but I had to give it up. I kept coming back about a hour late, and I was afraid I'd get fired and not have any plant money. I confess I have gotten rather loud and snotty at the employees who are standing around when the poor plants are dying of thirst. They just look at me like I'm a nut.
