it's a repeat bloomer not continuous. You just planted it this year sounds like it is putting energy in growth over bloom. probably bloom when it gets a little cooler if not i'd just give it time.

I am having the same problem --Don Juan, 3rd yr, and New Dawn, 2nd. Healthy plant, strong growth, Don Juan less than 6 blooms all year, New Dawn none. How long does it take before they bloom. Are the climbers slower? My mde Isaac Perriere the same --beautiful bush and 2 blooms all year. 3rd yr for her. Suggestions?

Climbers take several years to get going, much longer than shrubs, floribundas, or HTs. The best thing to do is give them sufficient water, regular fertilizer, and protect them from disease and winter damage. They will respond, eventually.

I have had Blaze for three years now I think. I have moved it twice due to inferior light so I can't remember now if it has been two or three years. Anyway this spring for the first time ever it put on a great show of blooms. It was so pretty! That was the spring flush. Nothing since. Because I have moved it I am cutting it slack but next year I really need some results or I will probably sp it.

Sorry, your other question. Winter protection. Here in Zone 7 I have made no attempt to protect any of my roses and they have not suffered. In my limited experience Blaze should be fine in your climate without extra steps being taken.

Some who are more knowledgeable about winter rose care might chime in with sage advice.
