Personally, I would avoid diagonal stripes (which always remind me of barbershop poles), but what about a geometric wallpaper on one wall in a gray and white pattern?

i thought about just one diagnol stripe that went just over two walls??? i don't really know if i want wallpaper

I agree with feeny I'm not crazy about the idea of painting stripes. What about finding a cool piece of artwork to hang on the wall? There's a fun idea book today about colorful art. If you're artistic yourself maybe you could even create your own masterpiece.

If you really really want stripes, I'd recommend very subtle stripes. Paint the wall all one color, but the stripe is "flat" paint and the next is "semi-gloss". It's quite subtle but noticable, pretty and sophisticated. I first painted the walls flat, then went back with painters tape and carefully figured the width for each stripe for the semi gloss. I think it's important to measure exactly..so you don't have a skinny stripe in the corner...or top/bottom. Or.instead of stripes, you can use a stencil with the same method of flat/semi-gloss.

Hi there, just to add to the convo - if you are really stripe lover (I love stripes too!), horizontal is the way to go. I like darzy's flat vs. semi-gloss idea but another way to go could be different sized rows or stripes so that you have only a single five inch stripe towards the center of the wall and two foot long "banners" going towards the center from the ceiling and floor respectively. Something like a layer cake. I did this in my guest room but didnt have a finished pic handy (you can email me and I can send directly to you). Here is how I taped up the wall so you can see what I mean (hopefully). Good luck!

Yes Vikrant! My blood, sweat and tears are on these walls mainly from putting up the tape (that alone took 2.5 hours and 3 people!). Thanks! I am glad someone besides me likes it!

Here's an example with dark diamond wallpaper in a purple and white bedroom theme.

Fabric is another thought. If you could find a fabric you love that matches your decor, simply cut the panels to length, soak them in liquid starch and hang. Voila!
