Cool photos. I've always wanted Coneflowers. How do you grow them?

I love the names they come up with for coreopsis cultivars.
There's "Jethro Tull." There's my favorite "creme brulee," and here's "tequila sunrise." Hmmm.

nice pictures. I like coneflowers well after the petals are gone, when the seedhaeds are still pretty, and then later when the goldfinches get after the seed. A favorite of the critters! And easy to grow.

Thanks! Jeff, I started those from seed last winter and had a couple of blooms last year on plants that were probably 2-3 ft. tall. This year they are close to 6 ft tall and the ones that get some afternoon shade are probably 4 ft., and all are completely loaded with blooms that last and last! They were easy to grow from seed (they were my first successful flowers to grow from seed) and like Todd mentioned, are super easy to grow. They are in kinda-amended, heavy, compacted clay, receive minimal to no supplemental watering, and I haven't gotten around to fertilizing this year. Apparently, all they want is plenty of sun and they are happy - My type of flowers, LOL!

I'd be happy to plan on bringing you some to the fall swap, if you'd like.

i just started having the coneflowers. my friend has great luck with them. i am more of a zinnia & rudbeckia gal. i am really starting to like the coneflowers, though, and plan to have many more next year.

Nice photos. I too love coneflowers. Bought one this year called 'Tomato Soup', and as you might guess it is red. I wanted to try it out for use in a red, white & blue area later (like next year). Even for a first-year plant it's growing strong.

You are right Ted- interesting coreopsis names.
