HAVE: Fall swap??? 9/10/05 - Oak Mountain

Okay folks - i guess we better get busy posting - who in Bham is going to handle "booking" a pavillion, etc. What are we having - pot luck? Who all is coming? I have lots of trades arranged so far - but don't know who else might be interested.

Here's the link to the ongoing discussions ref: fall swap @ Oak Mountain - 9/10/05.

Hi Rosey, Here is a copy of the information from the spring swap. This has worked well for us in the past. First thing that needs to be done is someone calling Oak Mountain to confirm that there is not any huge event going on in the park that day. One year there was a huge marathon going on, and the park was crowded to the max. I can take care of that on Monday if everyone wants me to. Also, we do not usually reserve a pavilion because it is quite costly; however, if the pavilion is not posted as reserved, you can use it for free. We have not had a problem with this is the past. This is the way we have done it in the past; however, if everyone wants to do it differently, that is great as well.

Let me start off by saying....please, please, please, if you are a new gardener or a gardener starting over, please do not feel like you do not have anything to offer. There are tons of things that you may have just around your house that someone may want. In the past, I have traded for canned goods, educational materials, craft materials, pots, hand made goods, jewelry, newspapers for mulching, manure, stepping stones, clothes for me, clothes for my children, etc. There are always, always things that you can trade. So please do not let that be a deterrent.

In case you do not know how to get to Oak Mountain, here is a link with a map:

    http://www.oakmountainstatepark.org/roadmap.gif

Here is also a link for a map to the park itself. You will go in the front gate, take the first right, which is Terrace Drive, and follow this road until you come to the large parking lot at the very end. On the map, it is number two right in front of the Dogwood pavilion. Maybe we will get lucky that day and the Dogwood pavilion will not be reserved, and we can eat lunch there.

Post here so that everyone knows who will be attending and who will be trading, but please put your trade list on your private page that way it does not get so confusing, and that way everyone can check your page from here. I will have mine ready hopefully by tomorrow, but please check it regularly as I will be adding things as they come to mind. I will put mine up in the "Seeds" section of my trade list.

Thanks so much, and I hope everyone has a wonderful time!

Deb - thanks for clarifying everything, and yes, since you are in the Bham area, will you confirm that there is nothing going on at Oak Mountain on that date, and post it so everyone will know.

And yes, i understand and agree totally about not reserving a pavillion - don't know about everyone else, but gas prices are taking care of the extra dollars i used to have! :)

I personally can't wait until the swap. Hopefully this post, with the date in the subject line, will get everyone moving.
    Thanks! Rosemary

Deb, Thanks for organizing the swap. Please check my list and see if there is anything you want. I am interested in the variegated liriope that is on your trade list-as much as you can spare-I need a ground cover for shade that doesn't run rampant. Susan.

Deb, THANK YOU for doing this for the swap. If there is anything I can do to help, please let me know.
I can bring the table cloths, non matching, of course, :O) if you want me to.
We can start a food list closer to the date of the swap to be sure who is definitely coming.
Tell Tony to please come and hope he's doing OK.

Hey All! It's not me. It's a group effort. I called Oak Mountain, and they said they did not have any large events scheduled "thus far" for that day. I think it will be a good day. Susan, you are welcome to the liriope. I have to divide it anyway for a border I am doing. It will be bagged not potted, but you can't kill liriope even if you tried.

Thanks for thinking of my dad. I am going to try to encourage him to come. He is doing well and keeping busy.

    See you guys soon,

Hey Deb - thanks for checking on it - and yes, it'll be a group thing - no sense in anyone having to do it all! I just don't know what to "do" since it is my 1st one....i agree - get your dad to come. I sent him a couple of notes - and also posted reference his friend's irises - tell him he needs to come too!

    Lynn,

I absolutely refuse to eat on non-matching table cloths - surely you can do better that this ! Plus it gives me gas....(tee! hee!).

On a lighter note, I have updated my exchange page and welcome all offers. And regarding the food, I ain't bringin' no dead-a$$ chickens since ya'll didn't eat the dang thangs earlier this year.

Lookin' forward to seein' all ya'll!

Besides stuff on my trade list, I have a lot of other stuff piling up
around here that my five year old has outgrown, and I'll never get around to having a garage sale. If any of you have small children, I have toys like a
MyFirstLeapPad, nice tricycle, etc. etc. in the garage, high chair, clothes, videos, books, etc. etc. If anyone interested in such non-vegetative trade items, let me know.
