It depends upon what kind of salvia, scandia. There are some fairly hardy perennial species which are a staple in many gardens, as well as the less hardy annuals (and perennials). What does your salvia look like?

i have pineapple sage (aka salvia) - which is full of beautiful red blossoms - anyone know if it will survive if i protect it?

Yes, my pineapple sage survived last winter, not many flowers this year, due to drought. Just to be sure it survives this years winter, I brought in a few cuttings in a pot. It is a lovely plant. Good luck with yours.

I do not cut my salvias back. I used to but stopped. I was told that winter rains can get into the stalks and then if we have a freeze they could possibly be killed. My pineapple sages and other sages that are prennials do just fine and have survived without any problems. My lady in red and salvia subrodunta re-seed themselves.

I don't cut back anything anymore until after the chance of a freeze on the spring.
