I have "conversation piece" azaleas and forsythia in bloom right now also. They are as confused as we are.

Some plants will do that in the fall, particularly if there has been a drought and sudden rain. It's confusing to the plants and my mother, great azalea grower and hybridizer, always said, "it's stress."

maybe yours are a relative of the Encore Azalea that Flowerwood Farms grows. We have a bunch and they bloomed 3 separate times this year (blooming now, in fact).
