not a chance!! i'm a coward...we had a milder winter for the last couple, but even so we still get about 2 weeks of very cold weather. let us know how you do!! do you gro grafts or own roots? donna

oh francie i am like you, i just wish this global warming thing would hurry up and get here. I can't wait. I just hope all this cutting down of the co2 emissions doesn't suffocate my roses as they do love their co2!lol! well i'm not winter protecting mine. but mine should all thrive in my zone. I just hope i don't have to wait 20 years or more before i become a zone 7 and am able to grow some of the roses i do desire to. and if i could have greenhouse gases and not have to buy a greenhouse, i'm all for it!

I agree with the idea that "if it dies it dies", but I look at the temperatures here in Lyons (France) and I see that global warming or not we get a cold winter every 10 years or so...so it WILL die!

The first year I decided to really go all out and winter protect my roses, we never got below zero, Albany had more than 20 day of measurable rain in the month of December, and I had more damage than I'd ever seen before including the year we saw -30°F. I don't do that anymore.

We do tend to have snow cover here, unlike the meteorological garbage we got in western Pennsylvania, where cold air tended to be extremely dry, having unloaded any potential snow somewhere around Calgary. The Lake Erie snow belt ended about ten miles north of us, about at the county line. Now I also gave up on winter protection there because it just didn't seem to do anything. It didn't cause the damage it does here, it just made no difference in how the roses came through winter.
