We are planing to redesign a side yard area to be a peaceful relaxation area. We are going to put in a seating area, and I would like a nice shade tree to cover it. The tree will be about 10' from the side of the house, so it must have a root system that will not damage the foundation. We are in the San Gabriel Valley area of Southern California, zone 9. I would like the tree to be about 15' or less tall with about a 15' or less spread. The tree will be on the western exposure of the house, and can expect to get partial sun. Large green leaves are preferred. Drought tolerance is preferred. Flowers, fruits, or anything else that might attract pests are NOT preferred.

I know there is probably nothing that satisfies all my wants, but what might be a good idea for a tree that gets me as much of it as possible?

Thanks
