garlic too close together

I'm not quite sure what to do. A few days after I planted my garlic back in October, my dog got into the garden and dug up some of the cloves. I was very careful about my spacing (thank you Gardenlad) and I had to replant. Now that my garlic is up and about 12"-14" high, I can see that I have a few plants that entirely too close together. Should I just leave them to grow and chalk it up to experience (I immediately fenced in the garden to keep the dog out) or do you think I could separate them now without harming the bulbs?
