My First Fresh Garlic

Okay. I pulled out my first-ever home grown garlic. Then I wondered exactly what to do with the BEAUTIFUL cloves, all delicately streaked with purple along each side (thank you, Martin).

I realized I didn't know of any "garlic sampling" dishes so that I might be able to tell the difference between fresh and store-bought, so I decided to add a few cloves to some mushrooms for an omelette (after all, spaghetti sauce surely masks any subtle differences).

WOWOWOWEE!

Subtle differences? I think not! I had a hard time not eating all the garlic/mushroom filling straight.

Now, I remember a post a while back with a lot of recipes, but I can't find it saved on my computer (!).

Suggestions? Is it dangerous to eat them straight like snacks?

Once, someone posted a recipe for boiling/pickling garlic, and I tried it with store bought, and was quite happy. Wonder how these would be? At least they can be popped straight into the mouth.

Now, to go sit by the rest of the garlic and watch for browning of leaves. The only two that put out scapes from the garden variety Martin sent have been pulled up and they are just right, by my guess.

Since there are several varieties, do I need to pull up based on leaf browning, or can I assume the lot is ready and pull as I eat?
