Caring for alium bulbs

I had heard that the alium bulbs should be dug up in the summer when the plant dies away. I dug them up and now am not sure I did the right thing. I left some in the ground and the rest are now out of the ground. Should I dig them all up or should I replant the bulbs? I am also thinking I should have cut off the flower once it was done flowering. I did not do that. But the plants are definitely dead now. What is your advice?
