Direct Sowing using a Tarp

I am wondering if it would be possible to direct sow seeds once the ground is workable in my zone, even though it is not suggest to plant seeds until May 15. Do you think it might be possible to direct sow the seeds I would normally winter sow, say in March when the ground warms up enough, and then cover them with a clear plastic tarp with vent holes? In my mind it's the same concept as winter sowing...because the green plastic would warm up the area.

The reason I ask is because I had used this green clear plastic tarp to try and kill a patch of grass, before I knew that you had to block out all the sunlight or fry the grass with black tarps. So instead I created a nice big fat thick patch of bright green grass right where I'd intended to create a flower bed.

So could it work directly in the ground? Could I eliminate the jug altogether???
