I don't think you have anything to worry about. I normally water right after planting and leave the rest to Mother Nature.

I will water in the spring if the weather has been dry. With the amount of snow we get around here, upwards of 110", that is unlikely. If April and May is hot and dry, I'll water until the middle of the month of May. After that I let Mother Nature take over again.

Also, I use a high nitrogen fert, like a blood meal, in the early spring and possibly a fish emulsion fert soil drench, once in late April or early May.

Of course, I do prep the beds before planting. This year I used rabbit manure, composted chicken manure, coffee grounds, Plant Tone and a new organic fert called Numus.
