If you can dig in your soil without a pick axe or blowtorch it isn't too late for garlic.

Garlic can be spring planted with good results as well so not getting it in during the fall doesn't preclude you from growing garlic.

Having said that if you have planting stock right now it will do better in the ground than storing until spring.

As proved in the past, the latest that a person may plant is 31 December. The earliest, of course, would be 1 January! In the case of the test planting here, I used a hatchet to break through the frozen crust. Garlic didn't care and some had minimum mulch or other winter protection. 100% survival.

Jen, I planted garlic and some walking onions the Friday after Thanksgiving. It was predicted to rain over the weekend (Praise God, it did). I wanted to get them in the ground without playing in the mud.
