A spot with full sun with less wind blowing, well drained soil with some composted manure tilled in, all the sunflower varieties are very easy to grow and care for, just toss some seeds water em.. watch them grow and bloom....

I recommend you to try "Autumn beauty mix" you will get multi-toned flowers in yellow, orange, lime & brown shades..

Ditto what Izhar said, particularly the part about adding lots of manure (or compost)to the soil. If you live in a slug-heavy area, sunflower starts can easily be heavily damaged by slugs. This year I mulched my sunflower starts with pine needles and it seemed to keep the slugs at bay.
