hi pistol shrimp-I live in lawrence and have several species of bamboo growing at my place. if you know where to look theres alot of bamboo growing in Lawrence. watersedge on 9th street sells at least half a dozen varieties of bamboo all grown on their farm outside of town. I bought my first clump of bamboo at the farmers market here in town, I bought some yellow groove at the lawrence lawn and garden show and it is just going crazy and I have bought some at a nursery in north topeka forget the name it was near 75hwy. I have had great success with mail order bamboo from Lewisbamboo.com
PS if you want to see a huge installation of bamboo go to olathe at 119th and Renner Rd this is an industrial park that is landscaped almost entirely with bamboo some in the 20 to 30 foot range, I have no idea what species they are but would love to know
